Nooooooooo! Are these rumours about Tom Cruise starring in The Mountains of Madness true??? I don't know how I feel about that. I guess if his involvement helps get the film off the ground, then so be it. He can be tolerable on occasions. Just don't let him near Winfrey's couch... If it was an attractive male lead the studio needed, they could've gone with Eduardo Noriega.
as much as i would love to see ATMOM on the big screen, i guess i'll just have to settle for my yearly re-reading of the story. had high hopes for this, but knew i shouldn't have. hollywood and lovecraft just don't mix well.
This is something I've going to address on my next episode. I've thought about this a great deal. Part of the reason this fell through is because of the double-standard when it comes to horror films, and the ratings system. Another reason is that Del Toro wouldn't compromise.
We also have an established studio that is the home of classic horror and Sci-Fi--but were unwilling to take a risk in this economy.
There's a lot to consider about this. If Del Toro played ball...who knows? As for Tom Cruise--he's into alien gods. You'd think he'd be into it.
All my hopes for a well done, over the top, HPL Movie...dashed! Sigh. :-( The Old ones don't want to be seen on the big screen...and Del Toro knows what the look like. May be one day...
I really would have liked to see this film.... but alas it is not to be... I guess I will have to be satisfied with the Si-Fi Channel and film like "Dagon" and their version of "Color out of Space" And "Jesse Campbell" was the name of my Probation Officer Hopefully Not the Same person... ... the Doctor

ReplyDeleteI'm afraid it's worse than all that. Universal got cold feet. The movie is dead.
ReplyDeleteCripes, I don't know which is worse. Still, we'll see....
ReplyDeletebummer in more than one way. But perhaps that means DelToro will make it at a later time and do it right.
ReplyDelete?

ReplyDeleteI'll settle for one or two more from Stuart Gordon!
ReplyDeleteAt least I don't have to sit through an ATMOM film, starring Tom Cruise.

I'm not sure which news is worse. Film with Cruise or not film at all.
ReplyDeleteDamn it!
Thanks for keeping up updated, though!
